Boots & Kiko Haul

Yes, you're reading the title correctly. I have, once again, bought makeup. I went shopping the other day with my mum and we just spent the day perusing the shops and having lunch, and at the end of the day I had *maybe kind of accidentally on purpose* bought more makeup? I also bought some skincare products as well, but I thought that I would put them in a different post, which will be posted in a few days.

My first stop was in Boots as I have hit pan on the powder that I am currently using, so I wanted to buy a back up for when it eventually runs out. The Rimmel London Stay Matte Powder is only £3.99 and it honestly works so well - the best drugstore powder I've tried so far. I then needed to buy another Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge, as I have lost mine, and I bought a two pack as I want to try cream contouring, so I need two to keep the colours separate. This two pack is £9.99. As you will have read in my last blog post, I have been really into bronzer recently, and so I wanted to pick up a new one as I only own one at the moment. I used to have the Soap & Glory Solar Powder ages ago, and I loved it, so I picked it up again to see what I think about it now. It is £11.

It looks like it will work quite well for me as it has two different shades, so you can keep it light or darken it for more intensity, so I should be able to find a colour that looks somewhat natural on me.

I then went to The Body Shop as I needed to repurchase the Lightening Shade Adjusting Drops as I have gone through a whole bottle. This is £10.

I then went into Kiko as I want to try out more of their makeup. This is where I splurged for no reason really, just on a whim. I was looking through their bronzer section, and I saw the Sculpting Touch Creamy Stick Contour. I swatched it on the back of my hand, and it felt very creamy and easy to blend, which is important for me as I am pale so contour products never seem to suit me. I bought the lighter shade and will test out this product soon. It is £9.90. I then decided to try out a lipstick, as I haven't tried Kiko lipsticks yet. I bought the Unlimited Stylo Lipstick in 03, which looks to be like a  pink shade with slight brown undertones - like a Spring nude. It was £8.90. The one thing that I know I love from Kiko is their eyeshadows - I have one of their water eyeshadows already in a gold shade, and it is my go to eyeshadow for a night out, so I wanted to try another shade.

The Water Eyeshadow in 200 is a champagne shade with slight bronze undertones. It is very shimmery, which I love to use all over the lid. This colour sort of reminds me of my favourite shade from the Naked palette - 'Sidecar'. Hopefully it will live up to that standard. This is £8.90 but it is honestly so worth the price.

Kiko were having a sale on their other eyeshadows, which meant that they were only £2.50 each, so I picked up two. 03 (left) is a bronze shade with red undertones, and 07 is a bronze shade with grey undertones. These shades are both shimmery and look very versatile.

Have you tried any of these products?

Everyday Makeup Look

I am currently one week in to a three week break away from University, so I am back home in Bristol and seeing all my friends and family. This usually means that I am out and about for long periods of time during the day, so I often go for a quick and simple makeup look that will last the whole day, but looks good. This look is quite neutral so it will match any outfit I choose to wear with minimal thinking and effort.

Base

When doing a simpler and quicker look, I find that using a heavier coverage foundation with a matte finish will help every other section of makeup to look more polished. I have been trying out the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer for a couple of weeks now, and I can say that my makeup applies smoothly and stays on longer when I have used this product. For foundation, I used a combination of Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation and L'Oreal Paris Infallible Total Cover Foundation. This is mostly just to get the perfect colour, but I do think they compliment each other as well as the UD foundation is more liquid, and the LP foundation is more of a mousse texture. They are both high coverage and have matte finishes. For concealer under my eyes and around my nose, I use Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer, as always, and it is perfect. Then, to set all of this in place, I am currently using Rimmel Stay Matte Powder, which is so cheap and so amazing.

Face

You can't really tell in these pictures, but I am currently quite obsessed with bronzer and looking bronzed. The only bronzer that I really own is Benefit Hoola Bronzer, and it is really good. It is a warm toned medium brown shade with a matte finish. For me, it is definitely not my contour shade (currently searching for one) but it is a good bronzer shade. Then I just sweep Soap & Glory Love At First Blush over the apples of my cheeks and above my bronzer, for a very subtle blush that is quite highlighted. Then I go IN with my current highlight of choice, MAC Soft & Gentle Mineralize Skinfinish. It is a beautiful light golden shade which is just perfect.

Eyes

My eyebrows are currently always filled in using Benefit Brow Zings, and it is a staple. I have been filling them in more heavily recently though, and adding Benefit Gimme Brow on the top to keep them in place and darken them even further. For eyeshadow I have been using the Urban Decay Gwen Stefani Palette, which I mentioned in my March Favourites, here. For this look, I used 'Pop' on my lid, 'Anaheim' in my crease, 'Skimp' under my brows, and 'Blonde' in my inner corner. For mascara I am currently using Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara

Lips

My chosen shade for today's look is MAC Velvet Teddy.

As I am writing this post (8:30pm on Friday), I have been wearing this makeup look for around seven hours and it literally looks just as good as when it was first applied.

What is your quick and easy everyday makeup look? I'd love to read your comments.

March Favourites

I know this post is late as it is currently about half way through April, but better late than never right?

L'Oreal Paris Pure Clay Purity Mask - This face mask aims to purify and mattify the skin, which I can honestly say it does. It sets incredibly quickly, and leaves the skin feeling soft and fresh, and helps to reduce existing spots and clear the skin of any impurities. This does mean, however, that it brings new spots to the surface, but this is better for your skin in the long run. I use this once a week.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Mattifying Toner - I have been loving this recently! I use it at least two times a day, in the morning and the evening. It helps to mattify my face, which is helpful for before I apply makeup, and it helps to keep my skin clear by getting all the dirt and oil off in the evening. I have seen an improvement in my skin since I've been using this, so I definitely recommend this product. I have reviewed the whole set here if you are interested.

Urban Decay Gwen Stefani Palette - This has been my go to eyeshadow palette for a while now. I find that as it has multiple matte brown shades which vary in tones, it is perfect for any look, whether that is a simple everyday look or a full on glamorous smokey eye. I will say that the shimmer shades could be slightly better, as they are quite similar to each other, but they are good quality and very wearable. I have reviewed this palette in more detail too here.

Benefit Gimme Brow - I go through phases of using this product, but I have been using it basically everyday for the last month. Recently, I have been a lot more into brows, and making them look as good as I can, (which I'm still working on), and this product just keeps the hairs in place all day. It has a slight tint too, which ensures the brows are bold.

MAC Faux - I've had this lipstick for a while, but I only tried it recently and I love it. I was looking for a colour in between MAC Brave and MAC Velvet Teddy for a super everyday go to shade, as Brave is quite pink. This is perfect. It is still pink, but with more undertones of brown, and as it is a satin finish, it is slightly less harsh than a matte finish so suits any occasion.

Zoeva Luxe Sheer Cheek Brush - As it is Spring, and Summer is fast approaching, I have been loving bronzer. I am still yet to find the perfect shade for me, especially for contouring, but I am currently using this brush to help blend my bronzer out so that it is less harsh and it is just a dream brush. I have mentioned this brush in another blog post too here.

What have you been loving recently?
